Things you MUST Do Before Placing Your First Alibaba Order.

Alibaba is going to be the first point of call when it comes to finding manufacturers who can source your products for sale on Amazon.

With over 200M products and countless merchants, it is easy, simple, safe, and secure.

  1. Only Select Qualified Suppliers.

-> Make sure that your supplier has a verified badge (audited)

-> Check how many years your supplier has been on Alibaba (3ys+)

-> Ensure that your supplier has trade assurance (insurance)

-> Compliance certification for customs clearance
  1. Communicating with Suppliers.

Use Alibaba's built-in messaging service to communicate with your supplier.

You can colour code and group suppliers easily. This is invaluable when you are dealing with multiple supplies and multiple products/niches.

When you speak to suppliers, you need to get an accurate quote for the product.

The price listed on Alibaba isn't the 'real price'.

In order to obtain the real price, ask for the MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity).

You can negotiate this down.

You could even negotiate to pay a higher unit price per item, in order to bring the MOQ down.

I've gotten suppliers down from MOQs of 5000 units, all the way to 350 units.

Don't take the stated MOQ as law.

Once you have the MOQ, ask for the pricing tiers.

Generally speaking, the larger the quantity of your order, the cheaper the cost per unit.

Manufacturers do this to incentivize you to place a larger order.

Ask for the pricing on 500, 1000, and 5000 units.

Also, make sure you enquire about customization details and packaging.

  1. Know Whether Your Supplier is a Manufacturer or Trading Company.

Trading companies are middlemen and typically are higher priced.

However, they will have greater access to manufacturers.

Manufacturers are cheaper as they are the source.

I prefer using Manufacturers.

  1. Make use of RFQs.

If you know exactly which product you want to sell, take advantage of Alibaba's RFQ (Request for Quotation).

Here you can submit a request for your product (with photos).

Within an hour, you will have suppliers come to you.

  1. Find Out Your Supplier's Other Products.

Your eyes may have dived into one product, but you should explore other products within your supplier's catalog.

You might not need to look far for your next opportunity and can build out your brand.

  1. Get Samples.

Get at least 3 samples from 3 unique suppliers.

Have them ship you these samples so that you can touch and feel your products.

If you're going to be a brand owner, you need to make sure that you're selling the best products.

When placing your order, make sure that you place your order with a 30% deposit which enables your supplier to start production.

Make sure that you are paying no more than 30%.

Once the goods are manufactured, you can pay the remaining 70%.

A final point is to ensure that you get the products inspected by a third-party inspection agency.

A third party, not affiliated with your supplier will come to the supplier's facility and manually inspect the products in your order.

This is to ensure that the goods are of high quality before being sent.

When using an inspection company, hold off on paying the balance of your order until the inspection agency notifies you that they have passed the inspection.

Get the supplier to remedy any faults.

You can add an inspection service to your order when you check out in Alibaba Pay.

I highly recommend that you do this.

hope that you found this useful!

When doing product research, what are the most important pieces of data to consider and maybe something that often goes overlooked but have found to be helpful? Do you outsource any of your product research? This is for FBA wholesale

Where do you all find freight forwarders?

Yesterday I was feeling very discouraged about continuing on my FBA journey I haven't made a sale in almost a week and I'm trying to get a box of books shipped to them and it's been nothing but a pain I sat there pondering how much money I had invested and will I ever see it again and then I went to go check the app just one last time before the end of my night expecting to see the zeros all across the board but instead I had two units sold I know that doesn't seem like much to some but to me that was a sign to just keep going and not give up and that if I just put in the work it will be worth it

Hi Everyone. I am a guest and have a question for all the printing professionals that are in this group (or anyone who can help). I am trying to source flashcards from a manufacturer on Alibaba (actually, still trying to choose just one). The flashcards are a simple design, 110 cards, 300 gms paper, matte varnish, only requesting 500 MOQ to start. I want to ask to see their pre-production sample, but some are asking for up to $500! Is this fair? And are "digital samples" ok (I guess for samples, they don't use the BIG machines)? I just want to ensure the quality of my design before they go into mass production. Also, some are asking for a 50% deposit upfront. I thought 30% was acceptable. I would greatly appreciate some honest input. Thank you so much!

For private label, how many units do you recommend starting with? I placed my order and deposit for 1,200 units and now I’m regretting it! 😩. But it’s a holiday home decor item. 25% margin. Not a lot of competition and a new trend.

Hi Sellers! So I will be launching my product very soon (maybe this week or next). The roadblock I'm hitting is that I have registered for my trademark 2 days ago, but am still unable to use the serial number on the brand registry application for Amazon. Question is: Can I list the product first then go BACK and register the brand? Will it then be applicable to the previous product? TIA! 😀

Should I:

  1. Go ahead and list the product and move forward with the launch.
  2. Wait to get brand registered then launch.

My storefront is finally visible except for business name it used my personal name instead of my business name. I have looked through desktop setting on seller central and cant seem to find a way to change it. Is it possible to change? Id rather not have my full legal name showing.
